A paper-mache red devil mask. In the olden days, ogres were thought to be evil spirits, and their actions were believed to cause disasters and illnesses. It is said that Setsubun was started as a way to drive away evil spirits by driving away such ogres. Bold ogre masks are recommended to be worn or displayed in your room.
